| This is a bittersweet event, as it is the first Dick's Picks to be released since the passing of Dick Latvala, for whom the series was named The senes w~ll continue, and will continue to bear the Dick's Picks name' both as homage to Latvala and because the picks will be his for quite some timethe notes he left behind are quite complete. This show, is quite appropriate, as it is one of his favorite shows from one of his favorite years. |
| Phil Lesh once said of the Grateful Dead: "Every place we play is Church." If ever a place put that theory to the test, it was Raceway Park, a desolate old auto-racing track cramn~ed with 150,000 people. A,nong the highlights are the first-set bookends, "Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo" and "The Music Never Stopped"; an "Eyes of the World" that some number among the all-time best performances of the song; a "Not Fade Away" for the ages; and a majestic encore, "Terrapin Station." |
